The Story

Nina Liburd is a fashion designer based in Amsterdam and London, whose roots span the UK, the Netherlands, Guyana, and East Africa. Her creative vision bridges continents and disciplines, merging fashion and film into an inseparable combination. Deeply influenced by the cinematic worlds she immersed herself in as a child, her work evokes emotions and universes that resonate beyond the fabric. She forms bridges to and invites the creation of new spaces for cultural identity.

Drawing from memories of watching her parents transform even the simplest moments into sartorial events, Liburd sees clothing as a home—a sanctuary that reflects identity, connection, and the interplay between the self and the world. Each garment is handmade in her circular atelier, imbued with the energy and intention of its makers, and designed to evolve with its wearer. Her garments are made to be worn.

Liburd’s collections begin with imagined universes, populated by characters whose stories unfold through the garments they inspire. Her designs are more than clothing; they are living vessels of memory and craftsmanship. At Nina Liburd, fashion is a bridge between universes—a fusion of film, life, and imagination that creates not just garments, but a feeling of home and meaning.

A Sustainable Journey

Nina is learning the language of sustainability. She started by wearing the dresses her mother lovingly handed down to her or her father’s twenty-year-old shirts that he was still using. As a struggling student, her first collection was made using dead stock and recycled materials. Growing in knowledge and passion, Nina seeks to incorporate sustainability into every stage of her process.

Working with sustainability expert Ian Tellam she is structuring a framework for the future of her brand that can make a viable contribution to climate solutions.
